PASTORAL MINISTRY
The Church Planter
Rev. Dr. Denis Ochieng
Rev. Dr. Denis Ochieng is the church planter and a minister for the Restoration Anglican Church in Charlotte. He was born in a polygamous family and is the first born in a family of 9 to Rosa and the Late Patrick Ochieng. He was born and raised in the rural areas of Mumias in Kakamega County in Western Kenya.
He was brought up in an Anglican Church where he was baptized and confirmed. He grew up in a poverty-stricken society, where the poor were looked down upon, the widows and the orphans were taken advantage off, the youth were prone to drug abuse, and no one really cared. Thus, there was hopelessness within the society and only in God would that hope be found. He himself became an orphan at the age of 19 and had to fend for his family. The challenges of growing up in this kind of an environment drew him closer to God and says, “I experienced the grace and goodness of the Lord that emboldened me to trust in God with a key transforming word in Psalms 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God”.”
Denis realized the call of God in his life at an early age where he led the praise and worship as early as third grade. The call became more apparent in 11th Grade (Form 3) where he began to minister to his classmates in high school in the Christian Union. In pursuance to his call he served as Sunday school director, Youth director, Kenya Anglican Men Association, a missioner, an Evangelist and a lay minister in St. Thomas Dagoretti Corner church and the Dioceses of Bondo, Maseno West, Nairobi and All Saints Cathedral in Kenya.
Notably, he was among the young people that remained in the Anglican Church when there was a mass movement of young people to the Pentecostal movement and pioneered the acceptance of charismatic praise and worship within the liturgy of the Anglican worship in Kenya. He has served in various capacities here in the United States as a member of the pastoral team, a pastor and as an assistant pastor in Harvest Church, Agape United Church and Emmanuel Community Anglican Church respectively.
He was trained by Life Ministry (Campus Crusade for Christ) in 2000 as an Evangelist and a trainer. He is a graduate of Theological Education by Extension geared towards biblical studies which included the books such as Exodus, 1 Corinthians and the Gospel of Mathews etc. He is trained as a lay minister and trained in advanced Theological Education by Extension under St Pauls’ University which courses included African Traditional Religion. He also holds a diploma in Personnel Management, Bachelors’ in Business Administration, Masters in Human Resource Management and Ph.D. in General Psychology (Industrial and Organizational Psychology) from Grand Canyon University in Arizona among other education and training. He is currently a Master of Arts Students in Biblical Studies at Trinity School of Ministry in Pennsylvania.
He was ordained on December 4th, 2021, and Priested on June 8th, 2024 under the Diocese of Christ Our Hope (DCH) under the province of Anglican Church in North America (ACNA). He is currently divorced and blessed with a wonderful son Darwin. He enjoys praise and worship, prayer, music, evangelism, and outreaches and to see God transforming lives of the people in the community especially those who are looked down upon within the society. He shares the word of God with lots of passion and energy by the grace of God. Sitting and listening to him share the word of God in the power of the Holy Spirit your life will never be the same. Come and join us every Sunday at 10:00 am Eastern Time.
